Japan’s and the United States’ Quests to Achieve a Carbon-Free Power Sector: Necessary Breakthroughs in Policy, Science and Technology, and Business Models
USJC partnered with the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research (PICHTR) and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) Foundation to bring together an esteemed virtual panel of top Japanese and American experts to explore the necessary scientific, technological, business and policy advancements necessary for Japan and the United States to achieve a carbon-free power sector. The webinar drew attention to the differences in challenges and opportunities that both countries face in tackling this issue. This discussion also opened the door for further diplomatic discourse on ways Japan and the United States can support each other and collaborate on this important quest towards a carbon-free power sector. Each partner organization also hosted in-person, invitation-only discussion and networking receptions on later dates in Washington, DC, New York and Hawaii. The Hawaii reception was hosted by PICHTR and it featured a keynote presentation from Yoh Kawanami, Director at Hawaiian Electric.
