PICHTR provided the design, construction, and initial operation of a biomass gasification facility near the Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. mill in Paia, Maui, which was completed in December 1995.  In December 1997, the feed system and other modifications, and two months of continuous operational testing were completed. PICHTR continues to work with the University of Hawaii’s Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) on research, development and commercialization programs dealing with fuel cells, hydrogen and biomass gasification.
